Tintype wet plate collodion photographer Studio in Lambertville NJ

Daniel Leocadi, a local wet plate collodion photographer, tintype studio on the second floor of the People’s Antique Store in Lambertville NJ.

There has not been a photographer like this in Lambertville since the Fritz photography studio that was situated next door and John C. Tibbles studio on the corner of Church and Union St during the 1860s – 1880s.

Wet plate collodion photography is one of the earliest photographic processes discovered by Frederick Scott Archer (UK) in the 1850s. The earliest photographs of the USA were captured by William Henry Jackson using this process, and Matthew Brady captured images of the American Civil War, many of which remain today.

Daniel uses this process of alchemy – silver, light, and a 1901 Century camera to capture a photograph onto a glass or metal plate. Once created, the plate is essentially an original physical work of art – a copy of the truth that can’t be changed or reproduced and, if taken care of, can last hundreds of years. The surreal raw quality can’t be matched by any digital process today. The entire process takes about 30 minutes per image and has several steps. Each plate is always unique and a product of many variables such as temperature, humidity, light, chemical formulas, and techniques, making it challenging to master.

The tintype portrait studio is open by appointment.

Tintype portraits and tintype sessions make unique and personal gifts for any occasion.

Rich Weiss’s Copper Collection

Rich Weiss’s Copper Collection
In the 2nd floor gallery

If you’re a copper enthusiast, like most of us, you’re in for a treat at Rich’s exclusive showroom at the People’s Store. Here, you’ll find a stunning array of vintage copper kettles, pots, and pans. Many of these treasures have tin, nickel, silver, or steel linings. Rich’s meticulously curated collection is a testament to copper cookware’s enduring beauty and functionality. The main advantage of copper stove-top kettles is their exceptional heat conductivity, allowing water to boil with unparalleled speed.
Copper pots, the most desirable pan to cook in, have a rich history. They were one of the first metals to be worked by human hands 11,000 years ago, and are still primarily used in higher-end French restaurants and professional kitchens.
Copper heats quickly and evenly but loses that heat just as fast. This responsiveness gives it a skill and agility that can be very useful for delicate proteins like fish and seafood, as well as sauces, caramel, and chocolate—remove a copper saucepan holding a delicate sauce from the heat. Its temperature will drop rapidly, reducing the chances the sauce overcooks or breaks from exposure to the retained heat in the metal.
Enhance your kitchen with the timeless elegance and superior functionality of copper cookware. Visit Rich Weiss’s showroom and find a few copper pieces to elevate your cooking experience.
Open every day 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.
