Graham Hueber is our dealer of the week! Get to know the guy behind the antiques.
“My favorite design period is American classical furniture from 1760 to 1810. This includes mainly Chippendale style furniture and the many derivatives of that style. It moves on in that century to Queen Anne and then Federal and Empire ending about 1810.
Both sets of grandparents and my parents were avid collectors of a wide range of styles: Philadelphia furniture of the 18th and 19th c, silver, Russian Imperial antiques and anything nautical for the beach house. I was raised going to antique stores, auctions and house sales.”
When we asked him what tips he has for home decorators, he said “If it speaks to you in the store, it will look even better in your home. You know what you like and what fits into your style. If it stops you in your tracks in the store imagine what it will do to your friends when they see it surrounded by your other carefully chosen items. If you cant quite imagine what it will look like at home, try it out first. Get a large box or a sheet or anything that approximates the size of the piece. Blow up a photo of the piece or sketch it onto the box or sheet and live with it for a few days. But remember to put the item on hold as someone may love it the way you do and purchase it first.”
Some of his favorite pieces in the store right now include a circular rotating book and curio display shelf in his booth. “I’ve never seen another.” And in the front booth on the first floor “I love the classic chests, tall grandfather clocks and the marine oil paintings. That is the look I grew up with and live with today.”
