Eugene Richards is perhaps the greatest living American social documentary photographer, and this is one of his rarest images, “After the Birth”.

The picture was taken in Washington DC in December 1990. It shows new father Jim Vogt kissing his wife Sarina, after the birth of their baby. Jim was so focused on comforting his wife that he hadn’t noticed that the baby was a bot, whom the couple named Zachary.

This photograph was printed by the artist and now available in the Manifesto Vintage Art Gallery in the Lower Level of the People’s Store.
